Mount Belford

8 Jul 2001 - by Rick Walker

Climbed Belford Sunday with five in our party. Started at 7:30 and reached the top at 11:45, not too bad for us. With the early melt-off there is no snow/water above Missouri Creek so was glad we packed enough. Monsoon season is here...clouded up by 10:30 and thunder drove us off the top soon after we summited. Other hikers reported two hours round trip to Oxford so we settled for the easy but longer descent down to Elkhead Pass and then down Missouri gulch trail. Absolutely beautiful!

The trail work done by the 14'ers initiative much in evidence and appreciated. A register is at top but nothing to write with. Surprisingly not too crowded for a Sunday...just two or three other parties in sight most of the trip.
