I'm planning on spending the summer of 2009 hiking, kayaking, backpacking, and peak bagging in the Sierras between Sonora Pass and the Sierra Valley. I've been away from the mountains for quite a while but I am planning on making up for lost time. If all goes well, then I might attempt the Tahoe Rim Trail in September (and if that goes well, I might just turn around and do it again in the opposite direction!)
I grew up climbing every mountain I could in the San Gabriel range of southern California. Ended up going to a private high school NW of Lake Tahoe where I once again climbed every local peak, plus took school trips to Mt. Whitney and Yosemite, which changed my life. Since I moved back to northern California a dozen years ago, most of my climbing has been in Yosemite, and off of highway 88/Carson Pass.
I'm not a fast hiker, I'm currently out of shape and stressed out, I don't own a GPS, my kayak is actually an inflat-o-yak, most of my backpacking equipment is decades old, and I might end up living on ramen noodles for the summer...but I absolutely love being in those mountains.
