Jobs Peak E Couloir

30 Dec 2009 - Steve Firebaugh (view Who's Who entry)

This trip we did from my driveway, but you may start from the Fay Luther TH.

Walking up to where the Fay Luther trail forks with the Lonesome Trail, we headed NW up a draw which became a gully system. We followed this up, keeping mostly to the right of the gully. At about 6200 feet, shift to the right to follow a more faint gully that becomes more obvious higher up.

We continued up this until the ridge coming SE from the false summit is gained, then scrambled to the false summit. We did not continue to the true summit, having left about 12:30 and fast arriving sunset. A bit of boulder clambering followed by gentle slopes will get you there. Lots of terrific glissading in the upper couloir did make for a fast descent though, and we were back by 5:30. More firm snow conditions should yield faster times.
