I climb mostly peaks that can be hiked without special climbing gear. I have done 1 rock climb in Ohiopyle State Park PA (around 2002), and 1 ice climb in Hylite Canyon (20 miles south of Bozeman MT) in 4/2005

Notable Peaks Climbed/ hiked:* indicates summit

  • Mt. Borah (Lost River Range) Idaho (9/2004)-went to 11,200'elevation
  • *Mt. Heely (Alaska Range) Denali National Park AK (6/1999) About5000'elevation but this mountain started near sea-level<.i>*Mt. Monadnock, NH (3300') ?White mtns. done in 2003
  • *Mt Ellis, MT (10,200') Gallatin Range summer 2005
  • *Mt Baldy, (Bozeman, MT)- Bridger Range (9100' with 4000' elevationgain) winter (Fall 2004)*North Table mtn. (Golden, CO) 2* (once in 2005 and again in 2006)-about 600' elevation gain (elv. 6700')
  • *Lookout Mountain (Golden, CO)2006 (about 1200' elevation gain) (elv. 7500')

Notable Hikes-Rachel Carson Trail Challenge hike of 34 miles in 1 day (north of Pittsburgh, PA).-I hiked 20 miles in Oil Creek State Park, PA (near Oil City, PA)-45 day tent camping trip (Geology Field Camp) through Lehigh University of PA in the Summer of 2002. This included daily hikes of 5-11 miles in remote areas of South Dakota, Wyoming and Idaho involving field mapping of geologic strata, and glacial terranes.

I have a wilderness First responder Certification and have led or co-led the following trips.

-Lava Lake Snowshoe Hike (Gallatin Range, MT) winter 2004/2005 (6 miles and 1500' elevation gain)with the Montana Wilderness Association

-Bear Trap Canyon hike (along Madison River) near Ennis, MT (5/2005) length about 14 miles. (Montana Wilderness Association)

-A short kayak trip to an island in the Allegheny River about 12 miles north of Pittsburgh ?2003 for Outside Adventures.

-A segment of the Kiskaminatis River leading to the Allegheny River (30 miles Northeast of Pittsburgh, PA) for Outside Adventures.

I began canoeing in 1995 and have since switched to sea-kayaking (on oceans and Rivers). I have paddled in the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean and about 32 Rivers in between. I am always looking for new and interesting places to paddle. I prefer places with flat water to class II. I've done a 7 day 40 mile canoe trip in Temagami Wilderness Area Ontario, Canada in 1997 where I paddled an interconnected loop of lakes and portaged in between. I did a similar 34 mile 6 day trip in the Moose River Maine area in 1999. The most interesting place I've paddled is Prince William Sound Alaska (1999) where I first sea-kayaked with my dad. We paddled to the place where the earth split in the 1964 earthquake and saw a ghost forest (dead standing trees) along the shore, with a 10-12' cliff supporting a healthy forest (the fault scarp).

In addition to climbing, hiking, and paddling I like to ski in the winter (nordic and downhill). I have skied at Peak n. Peak, NY, 7 Springs, PA, Mountain View (Edinboro, PA), Okemo, VT, Sunday River, Maine, Canon, NH, Big Sky, MT and Bridger Bowl, MT. My favorite places are Big sky followed by Canon.

I enjoy travel and have lived in 6 different states, and been to 35 states (DC), the Bahamas and Canada. Mostly I haven't been to the southern states.

I was born in 1980 in Pittsburgh, PA and earned a B.S. Degree in Geology in 2003 at Edinboro Univ. of PA. I have since taken 2 years of grad. school in geology ( 1 at the University of RI, and another at Montana State University Bozeman). I am currently employed as a geologist in Golden, CO.

I recently joined the Colorado Mountain Club (member Number 103320) and have been on 1 difficult snowshoe hike and 1 easy A intro hike. I am currently an A hiker and plan to lead CMC trips in the future.

I enjoy outdoor writing and photography.
